Group Bonfire Night

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all took part in our annual bonfire night celebration. We lit a bonfire, held a sing-a-long, feasted on hotdogs and hot chocolate and a set off a splendid fireworks display. It rained a little to start with but the sky cleared by the end of the event and were treated to a lovely starry night.

Bonfire night 2021

After not being able to hold it last year, it was great to get the whole Group together for our traditional Bonfire Night. As usual the guys were provided by the Beavers and we had a great bonfire and fireworks display as well as hotdogs and hot chocolate to keep us warm.

Thanks to Sophie and Tim for hosting us, to Calum for the fire and fireworks, and to all the leaders and parents who helped. Thanks as well to Enrick Explorers for their help in the food tent.

Guy-making

As is tradition, and now that we are allowed to have a big Group Bonfire Night, the Beavers have been making guys for the bonfire. Each of the three lodges made a guy and they can't wait to see them on the bonfire.

Bonfire night 2019

Bonfire night 2019 was a great success. As usual we had fantastic guys made by the Beavers, a huge bonfire, hotdogs and hot chocolate, and then great fireworks to finish off. Thanks to all our young members, leaders and parents for helping and supporting...and particular thanks to the Traffords and Fords for hosting us.

Fireworks 2018

The fireworks at our annual Group Bonfire Night event get better every year!

Thanks to all who came along and particular thanks to the Beavers for their wonderful Guys, to the Cub leaders for the hotdogs and hot chocolate, Calum for another great bonfire, Gage for the fireworks and all the Explorers and Young Leaders who helped with serving food and the fireworks.

Viking rafts

A couple of weeks ago the Scouts were challenged to create mini viking fire rafts. They had to use just natural resources that they could find (except for a flint and steel for lighting the fire) to build a floating raft that would hold a mini-bonfire. As you can see, they were very successful...even if the odd foot/leg/whole scout got a bit wet in the attempt.

Bonfire night 2017

Our annual Group Bonfire night event was a great success again this year. We had around 70 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and even the odd Explorer came along to help out.

The bonfire was the best we've had, the guys that the Beavers had made seemed to almost explode as soon as they were put on the bonfire, the "hot dogs" were definitely the best ever after the Cub leaders decided to go for real sausages!, and the fireworks were better any previous year, mainly because it seems you get three times the fireworks if you buy them a few months before bonfire night...and we haven't even mentioned the glowing light-sabres that replaced the glowsticks this year.

All in all a great success. Thanks to all the leaders for organising and particular thanks to the Traffords for the use of their land and to the Fords for the parking area.

Bonfire night

On Monday we had a fantastic Troop Bonfire Night. The Scouts had helped organise the night as part of their badge work and they seemed to get all the essential ingredients: a huge bonfire, lots of fireworks, and hot dogs.

The Beavers had also made three guys for the bonfire and everyone was very impressed at how flammable they were! They were equally impressed by the bonfire (thanks to the Scouts and Tim Trafford for wood collection), the hot dogs and hot chocolate (thanks to the Chefs/Cub leaders) and the fireworks (thanks Steve).

We had a great turnout, with almost every Beaver, Cub, Scout and Leader there, and with extra parents and siblings there was over 100 people!

An extra big thanks goes to the Traffords for letting us use the Ballindalloch grounds.
